FAQs

Do I need to bring bedding?

Absolutely not. A freshly made, cosy, tucked-up bed is what we want you to fall into without effort.  Towels provided per guest with each stay with a complimentary locally-made soap from Wig and Hall, you can choose your flavour of soap when booking. Please advise on the number of guests so we are able to provide the correct bedding/towels for your stay. Please note Douglas only has bedding for three although you are welcome to sleep a fourth on the sofa bench.

What is in the welcome pack?

It’s a surprise! however please advise at the point of booking any dietary requirements and your scent preferences.

Are the showers hot?

It’s not been easy to be as off grid as we are in a tucked-away field and we are incredibly proud to boast good water pressure and warm water all year round in both our quirky private shower rooms. Our showers whilst off-grid are built to a high standard using extraction and insulation to provide a good environment for hot water and washing facilities. If you do experience an issue with one of the showers on site please make us aware as soon as possible so we are able to fix any issues.

Does the compost toilet smell?

No, it really doesn’t. We do not store the compost within the toilet which enables us to provide a fresh bed of hemp shavings upon your first eco-friendly visit. A draw pipe is used for good airflow so you can take your guilt free visit in comfort. We often get told our compost toilets are the best people have ever experienced.

Can we cook onsite?

Each lorry comes with a well-equipped kitchen including full size gas oven grill hob combo with all the pot/pans/kettles/knives and baking trays you could need.  A full complement of cups, glasses, plates, bowls and cutlery is provided. If you wish to cook on the fire pit we have a handmade griddle complete with BBQ utensils and plates suitable for use outside provided. Eco friendly washing up liquid, cloths and tea towels can be found under sink.

How private are the units from one another?

We have measured door to door at 60 metres. However, we have considered privacy throughout the unit builds and site development. For example, using a long screen across the field, utilising the fall of the field to not interrupt the view but add to privacy of each unit. Both the units have exclusive kitchen and WC facilities, fire pit and wildflower meadow. The only shared space is the car park.

Do we need to bring firewood?

For each stay a bag of firewood suitable for use on the fire pit and one for the wood burner provided with fire lighters and kindling. If you wish to have more bags we can provide these at cost on site, option to pay by pay pal or cash on the day. Also an option to book additional wood at the point of booking online. Please no foraging on site, we often let certain piles break down close to trees as the woodlice and other creepies enjoy the environment they create.

Do you allow pets on site?

We love all animals, however due to the wildlife on site we have decided to not allow pets to give the native species the best habitat to flourish.

What if I break something

Firstly, please don’t panic. We take into account there being some broken plates or similar sometimes and we will not charge you for these minor breakages. It is more important to us that you let us know so we are able to ensure the next guests have everything thing that they need. If there is malicious damage we would look to recover costs for any damages. However, we really hope this is not ever a situation we find ourselves in, there is so much of our blood, sweat and tears in these lorries it was be hard to detach the emotion connection we built during the construction.

I want to have a party in the top lorry but not book the whole site

We encourage respecting the site wildlife, other guests and local residence for this reason we do not allow large loud parties. If you wish to take advantage of the site for meeting up with friends, a family get together, well behaved hen or stag or similar please see “book entire site” to make an enquiry. For example, booking the entire site and having a drink and sing song around the fire with an acoustic and some old pals until the wee hours is exactly the type of activity that this space lends itself to. However, booking just one unit, inviting all you friends to turn up at 11pm and linking 47 mini rigs together listening to n dubs until 6am isn’t acceptable and you would be asked to leave.

Can I bring a tent?

If you wish to bring a tent for a family member to have their own space or similar please make contact prior to your stay to enquire. If you wish to increase the site sleeping capacity by using tents the please see “book entire site” to make an enquiry

I like butterflies but I hate moths, could you ensure there are no moths during my stay?

Sorry, when you arrive you will see that this space belongs to the wildlife. As a guest on site if you are likely to be upset by the existence of a certain species then “get away hide away” may not the holiday for you.

How do I pay for my accommodation?

A deposit is required to secure you date and your holiday must be paid in full seven days prior to arrival. Our booking system will help remind you when your payment is due. We accept online card payments using our online booking system and also take bookings over the phone.

What if I need to cancel

In light of the recent pandemic we try to remain as understanding as possible with the unplanned need to cancel. However, we require seven days notice to receive a full refund for your booking. The £50 deposit to secure date is non-refundable.

What wildlife do you have on site?

We have developed, and continue to develop, our site to be as welcoming as possible for the diverse native wildlife on the site. For more information on the site wildlife please click here, we often update our Instagram account when we spot a new wildflower, creepy crawly or bird or similar

Are you open all year round?

Almost, we close January and February every year for site maintenance and development. By this we do not mean any more future builds just developing the site to be as inviting as possible for humans and wildlife.
